Applications Engineer

Job Summary
This individual is expected to have a broad knowledge of silicone materials, is a subject matter expert in some facet of silicone product technology as well as end user processing. The successful candidate will have a successful track record of leading projects to conclusion involving participants and stakeholders across multiple functions (Sales, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, etc.). This individual will need to handle multiple projects simultaneously, so good program management skills are a must. The individual will be expected to make data based decisions and to follow sound scientific discipline. Depending on the projects, the individual will need to possess working knowledge of all aspects of product design, development and commercial launch including product formulation, relevant analytical technology and functional material characterization, manufacturing process development, quality assurance and relevant regulatory considerations.
The Application Technologist for NuSil is accountable for the following:
+ Working side by side with the NuSil Commercial team, generate new business opportunities and identify mutually beneficial projects with customers via market research, networking and promotion of NuSil?s product offerings.
+ Serve as principle technical liaison between NuSil and our customers to deliver customized solutions that meet customer material needs and drive enterprise growth for NuSil.
+ Lead / facilitate the translation of ?Voice of the Customer? to ?Critical to Quality? material attributes and ultimately to mutually agreeable material specifications.
+ Lead / Support NuSil?s technical activities through the entire customer development process including; initial product design, design refinements, pilot scale production, manufacturing process development and final product launch.
+ Participate in technical aspects of customer processes such as design reviews, feasibility assessments, manufacturing process optimization, regulatory submissions and product launch.
+ Provide expert technical consultation and support customer trials to ensure successful deployment of new silicone materials.
+ Coordinate with NuSil project management function to ensure effective project execution and capture of meaningful project metrics.
+ Interface with NuSil Analytical Technology, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs and Operations to ensure objectives are clearly understood and cross-functional coordination is effective.
+ Serve as Product Owner for Scrum activities when appropriate.
+ Acquire and maintain practical technical expertise across all NuSil product offerings including basic formulation design knowledge, physical and mechanical properties, material limitations and product benefits to enable effective promotion with our customers.
+ Acquire and maintain practical technical understanding of customer processes to guide product recommendations and/or NuSil?s product design work.
+ Acquire and maintain working knowledge of commercial account management and transaction processes including the use of SalesForce as an essential tool.
+ Foster a safe work environment and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures and ethical conduct requirements.
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following skills:
+ Deep technical knowledge of the chemistry and materials science of silicone products (polymers, resins, reinforced elastomers, adhesives, primers, inks, foams, greases).
+ Working knowledge of silicone material manufacturing processes.
+ Demonstrated understanding of scientific research and new product development methods and their implications at different stages of the development process.
+ Rigorous scientific approach to product design and problem solving.
+ Fundamental understanding and working knowledge of statistically based quality principles and familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma methodologies
+ Extensive knowledge of customer processes (e.g., injection molding, extrusion, dip coating, spray coating, sheeting, device assembly, etc.) and end-use markets for silicones in the biomaterials space.
+ Business Acumen: understanding of markets and competition, value proposition, business cases, economics-based decision making and basic business financial terms.
+ Learning capacity and proactive drive for acquiring new relevant knowledge.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
+ B.S in Chemistry, Engineering or Material Science
+ 10 years of silicone industry experience
+ Experience with fabrication methods employed in silicone part / component manufacture
+ Team leadership experience
+ Training, communication skill
+ Preferred Qualifications
+ Advanced degree in Chemistry, Engineering or Material Science and 15+ years of silicone industry experience.
+ Direct experience with healthcare product and medical device design, development, manufacture, testing and regulatory requirements.
+ At least 5 years of direct technical customer support/service experience and/or 5 years of experience in cast metal component product design or manufacturing process development.
+ Scrum experience
+ Lean / Six sigma certifications

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
